The Israeli army confirmed on Thursday that Popular Resistance Committees executed Eliyahu Asheri, 18, of Itamar, who was kidnapped earlier this week. Asheri's family has been notified. OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Yair Naveh said the yeshiva student was shot in the head immediately after the kidnapping on Sunday. His funeral took place on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Israeli soldiers have arrested Popular Resistance Committees operatives involved in the kidnapping. Meanwhile, the Zohar Rabbinical Organization published a religious decree stating that hitchhiking, which Asheri had been doing when abducted, with an unknown driver is a sin. Israelis commonly hitchhike, but the habit has become increasingly dangerous lately.
