Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that Israel has no intention of occupying Gaza or remaining there. “We have one central goal and this is to return Gilad Shalit to his family.” Olmert added, “We will not hesitate to adopt extreme measures in order to return Shalit to his family, even still, we will not negotiate with terrorist organizations for his release.” The prime minister said, “Israel’s policy has never been to abandon soldiers in the territories.” He also said that Israel has no intention of hurting Palestinian civilians. “We are determined to find every possibility we are able and complete the task that is before us. The actions of last night were not the end of the sentence, and we will be forced to continue military operations and activities of foiling terror – no one who is involved in terror will be given immunity,” Peres said.
