Israeli jets fly over Syria

Israeli Air Force F-16 jets flew over Syrian President Bashar Assad’s mansion in Lakatia in northern Syria (see yellow dot on map) on Tuesday. The flight was a warning signal to Assad who is hosting Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Damascus. Israel has accused Mashaal of instructing the kidnapping of soldier Gilad Shalit and torpedoing international contacts involved in the soldier’s release. If Assad does not understand the signs, Israel will be forced to step up its operations against terrorist organizations in the territories. “There will be no immunity,” Israel said. Because Syria’s air defense lacks strength, Syria has signed a deal with Russia to supply them with anti-aircraft missiles.
