Mea Shearim mob blocks arrest of shop owner

A mob of religious men attempted to block Israeli security officials from entering the Jerusalem ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Mea Shearim on Thursday to arrest a butcher-shop owner employing a Palestinian living in Israel without a permit. The group removed the butcher-shop owner from the police vehicle, punctured the tires and broke windows. Violence became so intense, police tossed grenades and fired bullets into the air as protesters tried to smuggle the shop owner away from the area. “It was like a battlefield, like Gaza,” said one bystander. One of employees of the shop said the Palestinian does not work there. Meanwhile, the butcher-shop owner is missing.
