Israel deploys Patriot Missiles in Haifa

Sunday, July 16, 2006 |  by Staff Writer

Israel deployed three Patriot missile batteries at an air base in Haifa overnight Saturday after over 700 katyusha rockets fell into Israel since last Wednesday. In spite of this, 10-15 rockets fell on Haifa Sunday morning killing eight and wounding dozens.

Israel has not utilized the Patriot missiles since the US invaded Iraq in 2003. The deployment is to counter any type of missile threat.

“Hizballah may surprise us in the coming days, but we have surprises for them, too,” General Gadi Eizenkot said. “We have to prepare for a long-term campaign.”

Patriot missiles would be effective if Iran gave the terrorist organization, Hizballah, the green light to launch long-range missiles.
