In a private meeting, the head of the Shin Bet (General Security Services) Yuval Diskin met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas concerning the release of abducted soldier Gilad Shalit and the escalation of events in the Gaza Strip in Amman.

Diskin conveyed to Abbas that Israel is not ready to negotiate by giving into Hamas demands and release prisoners in exchange for the soldier, but is ready to discuss this with Abbas.

Meanwhile, army operations in the Gaza Strip continued simultaneously with operations in Lebanon. The Israeli army bombed the Palestinian Foreign Ministry, Treasury and Interior Ministry. Political sources said, “We are slowly, but surely destroying the Hamas government.”
