A committee of American Jewish organizations’ presidents has developed an initiative to rescue tourism in the north from collapse. This northern operation involves “virtual tourism” where tourists pay now via credit card and come later. At a time when 50 percent of tourists are canceling their trips, Jewish groups are finding ways to keep hotels open and workers paid.
The committee of presidents will also donate $10 million to finance summer youth camps in the north.
Ambassador Arye Mekel of the Consul General of Israel in New York said there are massive Jewish organizations in America ready to help in this war, that this is not a choice of intellect, but every Jew needs to stand with Israel and the government.
The American Jewish committee established an emergency fund for Israel. The fund includes half a million shekels to be transferred to residents in the north and south who have been wounded by Katyushas and Kassams.
