Olmert: There will be more ups and downs

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with college students on Sunday to discuss national security.

“We don’t have conflict with Lebanon, but with members of the Shi’ite population in Lebanon,” he said. “The question is not what percent has been crushed, but if the threat has been removed. The test is of Israel’s standing ability. All our neighbors look at this. We need to be patient as there will be more ups and downs.”

Olmert pointed out that government ministers and office managers will visit these areas and help residents as long as the crisis continues.

After consulting with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Amir Peretz, the prime minister confirmed the establishment of a humanitarian arrangement. The international community would be able to transfer humanitarian aid to Lebanon only after inspection by the Israeli army.
