Rice vetoes temporary solutions

US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice arrived in Israel on a diplomatic mission to the Middle East, namely Israel and Lebanon, to resolve the current conflict.

“The goal of Hizballah is to set the world aflame and we will not let them succeed,” Rice said. Rice met with Israel’s Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

“Any peace is going to have to be based on enduring principles and not on temporary solutions,” Rice said. She flew to Israel immediately following meetings in Beirut with Lebanese Premier Fouad Siniora.

Rice said a solution should be based on United Nation’s resolution 1559, which stipulates the disarmament of Hizballah and the redeployment of Lebanese forces along the southern border. She also expressed concern about the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
