PM to US supporters: we will not cease

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke yesterday in a meeting with a special delegation of the United Jewish Congress (UJC) which arrived from the United States to show its support for Israel, and said that the work will continue until the objectives are reached.

“Everyday that passes, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is destroying more and more rocket launchers. We are talking about a long process. Israel cannot end it with the initial threat. We will not cease until there is a change. Despite the difficulties and the pain, we will stay the course in this battle,” the Prime Minister said.

“This is a war of the Israeli people and Israeli society,” he added. “This is a complex confrontation because we are not fighting against a regular army, but against small groups that launch rockets and missiles to civilian populations and are hiding all over Lebanon.

“We are fighting for ourselves with great courage, especially since we are talking about a different kind of war. In the northern front the terrorists are fighting against innocent civilians by firing missiles into homes and civilian populations. They are not fighting against someone who could fight back, but against civilians. We are doing everything we can so innocent civilians will not get hurt.”

The members of the delegation expressed their support for Israel and praised the population’s steadfast resolve in this conflict.

At the end of the meeting PM Olmert thanked the delegation for its solidarity and support: “We greatly appreciate you coming here to be with us. Your show of solidarity is very important to the State of Israel,” he said, adding that “the human and Jewish warmth you provide to the population is an important message that we are all responsible for each other. Thank you for being a part of us.”
