Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who is on a visit to the United States, said that the people supportive of Hizballah are holding missiles in their homes as if they were pets.
“Normal people hold a pet dog in their home. The Hizballah holds a pet missile. They hide the missile in their living room, their attic and their bedroom. To them the Katyusha is like a pet animal. The residents of Kfar Kana were hiding missiles inside their homes,” Peres said in a speech before the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations.
Prior to that, Peres spoke to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Annan told Peres that the UN will do its best in order to expedite the formation of a multinational force. “I know what Israel is going through and therefore I am working on establishing the ceasefire as soon as possible,” said Annan.
Peres said that it would be extremely helpful if international remarks would be more balanced. “It would really advance finding a solution,” he said. Peres promised that Israel will “act in cooperation with the President of the United States, the Secretary of State and with the United Nations in order to end aggression against Israel and to avoid future casualties.”
