The heads of the United Jewish Communities (UJC) announced that during 2006, they will transfer $300 million to Israel for the purpose of rebuilding the areas in the north hit by Katyushas.
These figures were presented by UJC leaders to Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres which introduced a huge international campaign where people from all over the world can reserve vacations in guest houses and hotels in the Galilee, pay now, and use the vacations anytime during the coming year, all in an effort to produce a cash flow for the tourism industry in the north and prevent its financial collapse.
Peres also met with heads of the Jewish Federation in New York and heads of the UJC to brief them on the war, international talks, and Israel’s economic situation. At the end of the meetings the heads of the Jewish Federation said they will immediately transfer an emergency amount of $10 million as special assistance for citizens living in bomb shelters.
