Legendary movie actress Brigitte Bardot sent a personal letter to Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz yesterday calling on him to stop the bombing of the civilian population in Lebanon.
Bardot called on Peretz to prove to her that he is a man of peace just like he presents himself. “I am very sorry, but your lack of flexibility portrays you as a man of war. I demand of you to prove you are a man of peace and order for the immediate end of bombing that is hurting the Lebanese civilians,” said the letter.
The 72 year-old Bardot, who heads a private animal rights fund, decided to write the letter to Peretz following the Qana incident.
In her letter Bardot mentioned that the government of France published a severe condemnation of the lethal strike in Qana. She mentioned the Holocaust as an example of complete human insanity and asked: “Could the survivors of a genocide behave as cruel leaders? I believe that that is not the case.”
Bardot added that beyond the killing of innocent people, there is great environmental damage to the Mediterranean because of Israeli air strikes. At the end Bardot wrote she is demanding from Peretz to prove he is a man of peace. “I put my trust in you, but my prayers are reserved for the Lebanese victims.”
