The United Nations Human Rights Commission met on Wednesday in a special session to discuss Israel’s actions in Lebanon, emphasizing the Qana incident and the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Lebanon.
The Commission met by a special request of Muslim and Arab groups in Geneva, as a continuation to the deliberations in the Security Council. Israel had attempted to prevent the gathering, but the Arabs have enough of a majority to demand the special session.
The 57 Arab and Muslim states demanded of the commission to “act against the despicable violations of human rights Israel is conducting in Lebanon,” the request reads. In a similar move last month, the commission condemned Israel’s actions in the West Bank and Gaza. Officials in the Foreign Ministry say that this session will again result in a condemnation of Israel.
