In what could be billed as high level diplomatic relations, Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres met with Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman and persuaded her to visit Israel and to visit vacation sites in the north.
“We will be happy to have you,” Peres told the Hollywood star. “Maybe you can be tourism ambassador to the Galilee. It is an amazing place with lots of guest houses and history. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world.”
“It would be an honor for me to visit Israel,” Kidman said.
Peres was the guest of honor at a media event held by media mogul Rupert Murdoch in California. Peres was invited to speak about the future of the Middle East after the war in Lebanon and on Islamic-Western relations. He was also invited to participate in a panel with Islamic activists.
During one of the activities, Peres encountered the Hollywood actress who was also invited to the event. Kidman embraced Peres, said she admired him and asked Peres about the prospects for the future.
“It is a budding place and we are a prosperous country,” Peres replied. “We will come out stronger from this conflict.”
When Peres asked her if she had ever visited Israel, Kidman replied that she had not, but that she wants to visit and promised to do so within the next two months.
“Come and I promise you a meeting with the children of the Galilee,” Peres replied.
