Olmert thanks Bush for keeping Israel's interests

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke to President George Bush yesterday and thanked him for the assistance of the US in keeping Israeli interests within the Security Council's resolution saying, "Your statements since the beginning of the war in the north have strengthened the people of Israel."

President Bush said that his heart is with the residents of the north who suffered from attacks from a terrorist organization within a country. The President also sent his condolences to the families of those who were killed in this war.

Bush said that he greatly appreciates PM Olmert's stance against terrorism. "I am glad that I have a brave partner like you," Bush said to Olmert.

The two leaders also spoke about the Iranian threat. Later PM Olmert spoke with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who updated him on the Security Council Resolution. He also spoke with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi who told Olmert that after the Israeli Cabinet approves the adoption of the resolution, Italy will send troops to the force which will be deployed in southern Lebanon. Olmert also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
