Hizballah uses mosques and churches as shields

Reports arriving at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, say that Hizballah had built rooms for sheltering rockets and Katyushas underneath mosques in southern Lebanon, and that churches and Christians were used by Hizballah as human shields while firing rockets at Israel.

One of the reports is based on a document written by Christian Solidarity International (CSI) based in Washington. The organization, headed by Rev. Dr. Keith Roderick, has disseminated the document to church leaders and other factors, outlining examples of how Hizballah is using Christians as human shields.

The document brings examples of Christian residents in the Ein Ibal village, about 1.5 kilometers from Bent Jbeil, who said how the Hizballah fired rockets from between houses of Christians and how after the firing they took shelter in nearby churches. Other testimonies in the document explain how Hizballah had forcefully prevented Christian residents from leaving the village of Ramish.

The Foreign Ministry has already begun using the document for public diplomacy efforts in front of Christian audiences. Israel has also sent a copy of the document to the Vatican.

Media outlets from all over the world have already published similar stories. Here are a few examples: The New York Times reported that Christians have had traumatic confrontations with Hizballah. Faid Hana Ammar, a young Christian from the village of Ein Ibal told the newspaper that "the Hizballah people arrived in our village and fired rockets from between our houses. Please write that in your paper. The Hizballah arrive in groups of twos and threes and use the village as a base for firing rockets and the Israelis fire back." A local woman who refused to be identified for fear of reprisal by the Hizballah said that the Hizballah killed a Lebanese citizen who tried to escape from Bent Jbeil. "This is what is happening here, but nobody is talking because they are afraid of the Hizballah," the woman said. Other residents told the NY Times that whoever argues with the Hizballah could get shot on the spot.
