The Cabinet’s Committee on the Non-Jewish Sectors headed by Minister Meir Shitrit has approved a multi-year plan for the development of the Druze, Circassian, and Bedouin sectors in the north to the sum of NIS 800 million.

Of that sum, NIS 350 million will go to the Druze-Circassian sector and NIS 450 million will go to the Bedouin sector.

The plan refers to the years 2006-2009 and was constructed in coordination with the sector representatives and prepared by the government. “I believe that the implementation of this plan will be able to initiate social change in those sectors that had suffered from discrimination for many years. Besides the great importance of budgetary assistance, there is great importance in the activities of the municipalities themselves for the betterment of their quality of life including an emphasis on collecting property taxes, and infrastructure and facility maintenance,” Shitrit said.

He also emphasized that “we need to help those populations who wish to help themselves and better their situation.”
