An Israel Defense Forces soldier was killed overnight and an officer and two other soldiers injured by the explosions of two landmines in southern Lebanon, close to the border.

The Israel Defense Forces is continuing its investigation of the incident while an initial inquiry shows that the force accidentally entered a minefield which was planted by the IDF in the past in order to prevent armed gunmen from approaching the border fence.

The injured soldiers were evacuated to an Israeli hospital for further medical treatment. The families of the soldiers were notified.
