UN Secretary General Kofi Annan met in Jerusalem with the families of the three kidnapped soldiers Regev, Shalit and Goldwasser, and pledged his commitment to act towards their release.
Annan also met with Defense Minister Amir Peretz and said that he sees the issue of the kidnapped soldiers as one of the most important in Resolution 1701.
The families gave Annan photos of the three soldiers and asked him to place them on his desk until their return home. The families were disappointed that Annan had no new information regarding their sons.
Benny Regev, brother of Eldad said: “Annan told us that he sees this as a moral and humane issue and promised that he will do all in his powers to bring to their release.”
During his visit to Lebanon yesterday, Annan called for the immediate release of the soldiers by Hizballah, and their transfer to the International Red Cross.
Annan also said in Jerusalem yesterday that there is a need to complete the deployment of the multinational force so the Israeli Army could withdraw from Lebanon.
