Prime Minister Ehud Olmert revealed today during a visit to the north, that Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora had repeatedly rejected his calls to meet face to face and start negotiations towards peace.
“How simple and natural it would have been if the Prime Minister of Lebanon had accepted my request for us to sit together, shake hands, and stop the hatred that some of his people had directed towards us. I hope that this day will not be far,” Olmert said.
Olmert added that there are no people in this world who would like peace more than the people of Israel. “We forgive quickly and reconcile easily. What we ask is so simple, so natural, so normal and so obvious: To enjoy life, to wake up in the morning and not to worry. For 60 years we have been fighting to achieve these simple things, but until then we will do everything we need to be ready for any surprise, and we will invest great resources and efforts so the Galilee will flourish and will be filled with life,” he said.
