Peretz: No implementation of 1701

Defense Minister Amir Peretz said yesterday that from Israel’s point of view, UN resolution 1701 will not be fully implemented until the kidnapped soldiers return home.

During a visit to an IDF outpost in the Golan Heights yesterday, Peretz said that Israel has no intention to attack Syria, and that every end to a war brings with it new conditions for peace. “There is a need to open a dialogue with the Palestinians and to create the conditions so Syria can also join in,” Peretz said.

Peretz added that “there is no doubt that we wanted to completely dismantle Hizballah, but no army in the world could dismantle an entire terror organization from the core, but to de-legitimize it in the area in which it operates. Today we see what the citizens of Lebanon think about Hizballah – a violation of their sovereignty.”
