Falafel and the Hora: Israeli culture taught in Vietnam

Friday, September 08, 2006 |  by Staff Writer
The popular Vietnamese cultural television channel VTV-3 aired an entire show dedicated to Israeli culture and costumes, from falafel to the famous Hora circle dance.
The show was taped during the war and was aired last week.
The program featured a Hora folk dancing lesson taught by the daughter of the Israeli Ambassador to Hanoi and a taste of falafel prepared by the wife of the Security Chief of the embassy. The embassy staff also spoke about the traditions of the Feast of Sukkot (tabernacles) and built a model Sukkah (the covered outdoor eating tent during the Sukkot).
The show got such a high rating that the channel has already booked another episode about Israel – this time the traditions of Hanukkah, where the Embassador to Hanoi Efi Ben-Matetyahu will light the first candle of Hanukkah.
