Israel has filed a formal complaint with the president of the UN Security Council and the Political Division of the UN following the intensifying Kassam rocket firing at Israel in the past weeks.
In the complaint, Israel is warning that repeated firing of Kassam rockets from Gaza constitutes a violation of Israel’s sovereignty and could deteriorate the region to further violence and kill peace efforts in the region.
Last week Israel had also filed a complaint about Kassam firings and had requested the UN to act to prevent further aggression. “The firing of these rockets is threatening the peace and the stability of the entire region. Israel has chosen not to react but the day is not far when Israel will have to act in self defense in accordance with article 51 of the UN Charter. As such, the UN Secretary General must do everything in his power to stop the firing immediately,” the complaint read.
During the past two weeks, more than 25 Kassam rockets were fired from Gaza towards the city of Sderot and other populated areas in the south.
