Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that through the end of 2007, the government will invest 2.8 billion Shekels in improving the quality of life of residents of the north. “I believe that these investments will propel the quality of life in the area to a whole new level,” Olmert said during a meeting of the special Cabinet for the strengthening of Haifa and the north.

“A decision will be made to split first and second grades, which will lower the number of students per class, we will build hundreds more classrooms in the north for the welfare of the children and the teens,” said Olmert. The program will include assistance to 50 schools which require special attention because of their current state, he added.
