Brothers serve in two wars for two countries

In Israel, it is common to have two or more family members serving in the army or security services at the same time. But the Ben Ari family can boast two family members serving in two wars on the globe for two different armies.

Benjamin Ben-Ari, 24, a new immigrant to Israel from the United States, served in the Lebanon War this summer in his unit of the Israel Defense Forces. At the same time, his brother Michael Dadali, 26, was serving in Iraq for the United States Marine Corps.

The patriotic family has invested three generations in the Marines. Benjamin’s grandfather served in World War II. His father was a lawyer in the Marines, his older brother Jason served in the Marines and now his brother Michael.

Benjamin changed his family name after he immigrated to Israel two years ago. Michael attended Benjamin’s induction ceremony a few months ago.

“It became clear that the two of us were on the same track in our combat training and we are both heavy machine gun operators.”

At first, Michael was the only family member against Benjamin’s move to Israel. “By the age of 18 I already thought that in order that the Jewish State continues to exist, Jews need to come here,” he said.
