Defense Minister, settler leader discuss evacuation

Defense Minister Amir Peretz met with a senior settler leader in an attempt to come to an agreement concerning the evacuation of 10 illegal outposts in Judea and Samaria.

The settlers’ Yesha Council said they have not come to any conclusions, but confirmed that they are ready to evacuate for compensation in order to prevent violence. Peretz said they would meet again to discuss peaceful evacuations.

Despite the meetings, some settlers still plan on using force to resist the evacuation.

“The Amona model will be the model for struggle in every outpost that is evacuated,” the settlers said.

During the February evacuation of the illegal outpost of Amona (photo), settlers and evacuation forces clashed and as many as 200 policemen and settlers were injured.
