Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke during the weekly cabinet meeting and reported to the cabinet that during his meetings last week in Moscow, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov claimed that during the war, Hizballah used Israeli made “Gil” anti-tank missiles to fire at Israel Defense Forces troops.
Ivanov told Olmert that during the war, Hizballah used more weapons made by Israel and the United States than by Russia. He gave Prime Minister Olmert evidence showing that Hizballah used “Gil” missiles. “If Hizballah had your own missiles, what do you want from us?” Ivanov asked Olmert.
The Israelis, however, explained to Ivanov that he is only talking about one missile system which was forgotten by an IDF force, and made its way to the hands of Hizballah. The Israelis claim that there is no room to compare between a single case and the supply of dozens of Russian made Metis and Kornet anti-tank missiles which were sold to Syria, but made their way to Hizballah and were used to target IDF forces.
