Last week the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, approved an NIS 50 million increase in annual assistance (US$ 13.7 million) for Holocaust survivors living in Israel.
For the first time ever this week, the National Religious Broadcasters Network of America (NRB) in partnership with Christian Friends of Yad Vashem, will air "A Nation Remembers," a broadcast of Israel's official Holocaust Remembrance ceremony. Filmed on April 7, 2013 at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum and study center in Jerusalem, the well-attended open-air evening ceremony, with other ceremonies held at centers around the country, traditionally begins Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu recently committed to improving the welfare of Holocaust survivors living in Israel. This commitment has come about as a direct result of the efforts of Dora Roth, herself a Holocaust survivor, who made an impassioned speech in the Knesset during April, concerning the welfare of survivors.
