Last week the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, approved an NIS 50 million increase in annual assistance (US$ 13.7 million) for Holocaust survivors living in Israel.

The basic payment made to all survivors monthly will reflect this increase immediately, also special benefits, including benefits to the spouse of a deceased survivor.

The increase comes after Holocaust survivor Dora Roth's impassioned speech in the Knesset during April. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu recently committed to improving the living standard of Holocaust survivors in Israel. According to annual reports and surveys, over half of survivors were not able to meet monthly living costs, and ninety-two percent thought the government needed to increase the funds allocated for their welfare.

As always, Israel Today is proud to be able to offer support to Holocaust survivors. For your gift of $55, a survivor will be able to enjoy supermarket shopping with coupons to spend.
