Last week the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, approved an NIS 50 million increase in annual assistance (US$ 13.7 million) for Holocaust survivors living in Israel.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu recently committed to improving the welfare of Holocaust survivors living in Israel. This commitment has come about as a direct result of the efforts of Dora Roth, herself a Holocaust survivor, who made an impassioned speech in the Knesset during April, concerning the welfare of survivors.
The dire living situation of thousands of Holocaust survivors is a hot political topic in Israel. According to the coalition deal signed by Yesh Atid, a commitment has been made to increase the budget for Holocaust Survivor’s services.
