Ali is a Bedouin. He grew up in a small village in which it is uncommon to draft into the IDF. Still, Ali wanted to volunteer for IDF service and had to deal with his parents’ disapproval. When he told them about his plans, they strictly forbade him to join the IDF. Neither they nor Ali changed their minds, and finally, Ali decided to follow his own path.

Jews from China soon in the Israeli Army

Three young Chinese men from the ancient assimilated Jewish community in Kaifeng, China will start serving in the Israeli army in a few weeks. A few years ago they made Aliyah and just recently completed their conversion to Judaism. Their dream is to serve in the IDF’s Golani Unit.
