Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
Psalms 127:3

In a few weeks Israel will be celebrating the joyous holiday of Purim. One of the main activities of this celebration is the sending of Mishloach Manot (Gift Baskets) from family to family. This holiday is one that is especially memorable for children. They will dress up in costume and participate in street parades.

Unfortunately, there are many children whose parents cannot afford to involve their children in this festive time as a result of their economic circumstances. Many children rely on basic nourishment at after school centers, where they congregate in the afternoons.

Israel Today has been committed for many years to ensuring a quality life for all Israeli children. This year, as in previous years, we will be concentrating our efforts to help children from needy families to enable them to enjoy this time of the year.

Through the generosity of our subscribers and readers of the magazine, Israel Today will be able to:

  • provide Mishloach Manot to needy families
  • support underprivileged children, for example, by providing meals and financing extra-mural activities

A Medical miracle!

Posted on 2/20/2014 by Ariel Rudolph

In April 2001, when Ariel Yered was less than a year old, he was severely injured by a rocket fired at his home in Gush Katif. He was brought to a hospital in critical condition and initially showed no signs of life. Rocket fragments had penetrated his brain and damaged his spine.

The doctors did not believe that he would survive and thought that if he did he would spend the rest of his life in a vegetative state. After surgery his condition improved and after three weeks Ariel was transferred to the Alyn hospital where he started a long and difficult rehabilitation. Today, after many years of rehabilitation, Ariel is a true "medical miracle". He leads a normal life and is supported by his loving family and the community.

Ariel's case is just one of many examples of how the rehabilitation treatment offered by Alyn has helped those in need to recover. Children with congenital and acquired diseases, including cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and burns are treated at here.

Alyn’s doctors with varied areas of specialization offer a range of therapy including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, occupational and speech therapy. Each child treated at Alyn receives rehabilitation treatment personalized for his needs. Their therapy includes education and emotional support of their families including psychological counseling.

Alyn strives towards the speedy rehabilitation of children so that they can function independently, return back to their families and communities and regain their self esteem.
