We know that children are a blessing from heaven and parents in Israel are fully aware of this. They have so much love for their children, and you can see it all over Israel; mothers and fathers, absorbed in their children. Like all loving parents, they want the best for their children: education, opportunities, and of course, health and well-being.

There are lots of large families in Israel, and many of these families cannot afford to meet their children’s basic needs. A staggering 47% of families in Israel with four or more children experience food insecurity.

This poverty affects the religious community in Israel the most, many of whom have very large families. Jerusalem, one of Israel’s most religious cities, has the highest poverty rate.

Especially alarming is that child poverty is on the rise, as now 36% of children live below the poverty line. Together we can work towards putting an end to child poverty in Israel.

Just by giving $15 you are already making a priceless contribution!

Purim Is Almost Here!

It’s a festive time in Israel, a time of celebration and redemption. We at the Israel Today office are busy preparing to help Ethiopian-Israeli children celebrate their first Purim as Israeli citizens. But we need your help to make sure these precious children have a happy holiday.

Purim is a time to celebrate the Jewish people's redemption from the hands of Haman, a vizier to King Ahasuerus. The Book of Esther, recited on this holiday by Jews throughout the world, tells the story of how the Jewish woman Esther saved the Jews of Persia.

Reflecting these Biblical stories, the modern state of Israel has worked tirelessly to promote an ingathering of the Jewish people throughout the world, wherever they may be.

Jewish immigrants from Ethiopia - a long-lost tribe of Israel, if you will - have been streaming home for decades now. But their transition is rarely easy.

Despite the joy of living in a time that they can return to the land of their forefathers, Israel's Ethiopian immigrants typically arrive with little more than the shirts on their backs. They must also integrate into a new society that is far more different from what they are used to than it is for, say, immigrants from America or Europe

That makes many of these Ethiopians the most needy of Israel's citizens, and the state strains under the weight of providing assistance, while at the same time dedicating itself to bring all Jews home.

Help us welcome the children of this incredible, brave population of Jewish people. Be a blessing unto a new Israeli child by purchasing a Purim Treat and help welcome them home.
