Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
Psalms 127:3

In a few weeks Israel will be celebrating the joyous holiday of Purim. One of the main activities of this celebration is the sending of Mishloach Manot (Gift Baskets) from family to family. This holiday is one that is especially memorable for children. They will dress up in costume and participate in street parades.

Unfortunately, there are many children whose parents cannot afford to involve their children in this festive time as a result of their economic circumstances. Many children rely on basic nourishment at after school centers, where they congregate in the afternoons.

Israel Today has been committed for many years to ensuring a quality life for all Israeli children. This year, as in previous years, we will be concentrating our efforts to help children from needy families to enable them to enjoy this time of the year.

Through the generosity of our subscribers and readers of the magazine, Israel Today will be able to:

  • provide Mishloach Manot to needy families
  • support underprivileged children, for example, by providing meals and financing extra-mural activities

"Suffer the Children ..."

Readers and followers of the Word of God in the Old and New Testaments agree that God's ways are not man's ways - in other words, choosing to follow a holy path is very different from living a worldly life, beset by good and evil.

An excellent example of Godly living can be found in Psalm 127:3-5, written by none other than the wisest man, King Solomon himself: 'Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.'

Yet, even in God's own country, Israel, loud voices of dissent have recently been heard, as high as government level, endeavoring to discourage believers from having large families, by reducing provision for them.

In Matthew, the Gospel to the Jews, and also in Mark and Luke, Yeshua commands: "Suffer the children to come to me. For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”

It is not difficult to conclude from this quote, and many others like it in the Bible, that life for children is intended by the Creator to be heavenly! As people with free will, one of God's greatest gifts, believers everywhere should have no difficulty in pronouncing a resounding "No!" to proposals and laws that lead to children suffering. Israel Today is proud to be working towards putting an end to child poverty in the Holy Land.
