United Jerusalem Turns 40
On May 16th, Israel celebrates the 40th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem during the Six Day War in 1967. Over 3,000 years of history, the Holy City was divided only once, under Jordanian rule between 1948 and 1967.
Jerusalem—according to Jews, Moslems and Christians—is the center of the Middle East conflict. Who
has the right to this city? Palestinians insist that Jerusalem is theirs although it has never been a Palestinian—or Arab—capital. Since the Oslo Accords of 1993, all negotiations on Jerusalem have failed. All proposals, which include compromising Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, have mysteriously collapsed, as if the city has an invisible red line that cannot be crossed. Keeping the city intact
despite international pressure on Israel to relinquish Jerusalem “in exchange for peace” has been possible only with the help of God.
Israel Today editor Aviel Schneider interviewed prominent politicians about the 40th anniversary of the
united Jewish capital.
