Shopping, Shopping and More Shopping
Distinguished by classy shops and cafes, the ritzy Mamilla Alrov Quarter stands in marked contrast to the Old City, where shopping has long been characterized by colorful souvenir shops and hawking vendors. Now residents and tourists can stroll down the $150 million pedestrian mall reminiscent of European shopping arcades. This commercial mall touts top-of-the-line stores, such as Rolex, MAC make-up, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica and Billabong. In addition to cafés and restaurants, an IMAX theater is slated to open.
The Mamilla Quarter includes a gated residential community, a multi-story parking complex and two hotels that are scheduled to open in 2008.
The $400 million project is one of the most luxurious places in Jerusalem: One apartment was recently sold for $9 million.
