COFFEE, the Messiah and music
BEERSHEBA - Almost as old as the State of Israel itself, the Bible and coffee shop Ha-MaKoM has been a source of inspiration, respite and literature to the small number of believers who reside in the vast Negev desert of southern
Israel.
Ha-MaKoM, which means “The Place” in Hebrew, was established in 1957 under a different name by the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The Bible House was, and Ha-MaKoM is, the only Christian/Messianic bookstore in the Negev.
Ha-MaKoM is an acronym for the Hebrew words HaMashiach, Koffé, [and] Musica—the Messiah, coffee and music.
With only an estimated 300 believers among a population of 554,000, the Negev can be a very lonely place for Messianic Jews. So Ha-MaKoM has two other goals: making connections, especially for new believers, and building unity among the household of faith in the Negev.
Thirty-five people have received Yeshua (Jesus) there in the last two years.
