Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in Bangkok calling the meeting “encouraging and surprising” and had “exceeded expectations.” Olmert said he was pleased with the Chinese government’s stance against Iran’s nuclear program.

“We discussed a series of issues, including economic and diplomatic cooperation. Their (the Chinese's) statements on the diplomatic, and mainly the Iranian issue were encouraging," Olmert said.

In spite of this, the Chinese government is not ready to impose sanctions on Iran nuclear development, but said it prefers taking a diplomatic route in expressing its opposition.

Olmert is slated to meet with the Chinese president on Thursday.
