Jerusalemites woke up to a pleasant surprise on Thursday morning when snow began to fall.
A few may have begun to believe that summer had arrived earlier this week; the sun was shining and some were already sporting their sandals and t-shirts.
Jerusalem wasn’t the only city hit by the snowfall – the Golan Heights got its share as well.
Mt. Hermon was blanketed in snow and the site was closed to tourists on Thursday. Nearly 25 centimeters fell overnight on Wednesday in the north.
Schools in the northern Golan Heights were closed on Thursday, but classes and public transportation in Jerusalem remained unaffected.
The last snowfall in Jerusalem was in December of 2006.
