Ministers propose developing 'Israeli Kassam'

Two Israeli cabinet ministers on Wednesday proposed responding to the ongoing rocket fire from Palestinian Gaza by developing and employing an Israeli version of the homegrown terrorist projectiles.

As the cabinet met to discuss the threat to southern Israel communities, ministers Meir Sheetrit and Rafi Eitan put forward the idea of producing a local version of the Hamas-made Kassam rocket.

The two said that every time the Palestinians fire a Kassam into southern Israel, one should be sent right back into Gaza, thereby satisfying the international community's demand that Israel respond with proportionate force.

The government ultimately turned down all suggestions to significantly expand Israel's military response to the rocket fire, but also rejected the idea of a truce with Gaza-based terrorists.
