After Messiah is cut off, there is a gap in the time line which will not continue until v. 27. He shall confirm a covenant with many for one week, which is 7 years. He will be coming as a conquering King to save Israel from her enemies. Dan. 9:26 says that after the 62 weeks Messiah shall be cut off. (Crucified). And the people of the prince to come shall destroy the Holy City and the sanctuary. This was fulfilled in 70 a.d.

If you study ancient Bible history, Babel was where Nimrod ruled from. His purpose was to turn men away from worshiping God. God raised up Abraham to turn people back to God.
