Sudanese refugee killed while crossing into Israel

A refugee from the genocide in Sudan's Darfur region was found dead by an Israeli army border patrol near the southern resort town of Eilat on Sunday.

Army officials said the man appeared to have been shot while he was still in Egyptian territory, but managed to cross the border before dying, reported Ha'aretz.

Recent media reports confirmed by UN officials revealed that Egyptian border guards have taken to shooting at Sudanese refugees trying to reach the Jewish state.

Meanwhile, Israel has reinstituted a policy of jailing all male African refugees who enter the country in an effort to stem the tide of asylum seekers.

In April of this year, Israel stopped jailing incoming refugees and allowed them to take up temporary residence and find jobs. But word quickly spread to the growing and oppressed refugee community in Egypt that the situation in neighboring Israel was much better. More than 600 refugees entered Israel in May as a result of that policy change.
