Israel's only golf course to get world-class overhaul

The Caesarea Golf Course, Israel's only 18-hole golf course, will undergo major renovations over the next year that should put it on par with many of the world's top courses.

The $8 million overhaul will include a new course design by world renowned golf course designer Pete Dye, reported The Jerusalem Post. In addition to a new layout, the course will also be extended by nearly half a mile and be carpeted with a higher quality of grass.

Dye previously designed such top golf courses as Kiawah Island in South Carolina, TPC at Sawgrass, and the Brickyard Crossing course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 2005, he was awarded the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award.

Caesarea Golf Course officials hope the renovations will increase Israeli membership and attract more foreign golf tourism. They even dream of one day hosting an international tournament.
