Palestinian rocket hits Israeli daycare

A rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip slammed into a daycare in the southern Israel town of Sderot on Tuesday. There were no injuries, as the daycare was closed for summer vacation.

The rocket reportedly landed in the play yard and also caused minor damage to the daycare building.

“I don’t want to imagine what would have happened had the center been open,” one resident who lives near the daycare told Israel's Ynet news portal.

Residents of Sderot are furious with the government of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for refusing to expedite the fortification of schools in the town in compliance with a Supreme Court order. Olmert insists Israel cannot “fortify itself to death,” and has even suggested that the plight of Sderot is not so serious.

Gaza-based Palestinian terrorists have fired some 50 rockets and mortar shells at Sderot and surrounding communities since last week.
