A researcher at Israel's Hebrew University has developed a plant-based antioxidant that may finally provide a real solution to the breakdown of skin cells that causes wrinkles and a loss of elasticity.

Dr. Orit Bossi developed the antioxidant as part of her doctoral work, reported The Jerusalem Post. The plant used in the formula is being kept secret until the antioxidant can be patented and produced for consumer consumption.

Unlike other antioxidants - including vitamin C, vitamin E and EGCG - Bossi's antioxidant does not oxidate quickly, is impervious to high temperatures and retards the breakdown of collagen and elastin very deep within the skin, instead of affecting only the epidermis.
