Two minor earthquakes shook Israel Tuesday morning, grabbing people's attention but causing no injuries or damage.

Israelis from the northern port city of Haifa to the southern town of Beersheva reported feeling the earthquakes, both of which originated at the Dead Sea. The Geophysical Institute of Israel measured the tremors at 3 and 4.2 on the Richter scale, respectively.

The Dead Sea sits in the Syrian-African Rift Valley (also known as the Great Rift Valley), the longest fault line in the world. Experts have warned that if and when a major earthquake originates from the part of the fault line bordering Israel, inadequate building safety measures are going to result in mass casualties and widespread damage in the Jewish state.
