Concern for Israel among American Jews is waning, according to the results of the recently conducted American Jewish Committee 2007 Survey of American Jewish Opinion.

Despite an overwhelming consensus among respondents that the goal of the Muslim world remains dedicated to the eradication of their reborn national home, only 69 percent of Jewish Americans agreed that "caring about Israel is a very important part of my being a Jew."

That figure was down from 79 percent of Jewish Americans who were deeply concerned with Israel's well-beling in 2005.

The poll also showed decreasing support for America's global war on Islamic terrorism, with 42 percent saying economy, employment and health care should be the top priorities of the nation's next president. Only 16 percent said the incoming commander-in-chief should focus on winning the ongoing conflict between Islamic and Judeo-Christian civilizations.

Believing Hillary Clinton to be the candidate best suited to refocusing the rest of the nation on those concerns, 70 percent of respondents said they would give the former first lady their vote.
