Israel announced today that hundreds of new housing units have been slated for construction beyond the Green Line in Jewish neighborhoods of east Jerusalem, the future of which is still subject to negotiations in a final ‘peace’ deal with Palestinians.

Housing Minister Ze’ev Boim made the announcement in honor of the 41st annual Jerusalem Day, which will be observed on Monday. Har Homa will get 121 new units and Pisgat Zeev will get 763. Both neighborhoods are beyond the 1967 borders.

The Israel Land Authority will transfer additional territory to the Ministry of Defense and a veterans' group for the construction of an educational center for army commanders. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been opposed to construction beyond the Green Line.

“We continue to support the American position that the construction in the settlements must stop,” she said in a joint news conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. “Their enlargement, which does not conform with the Road Map obligations, must be halted.”
