Israeli exercise for Iran attack revealed

The recent massive Israel Air Force exercise in preparation for a possible military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities was code named "Glorious Spartan 08," according to Greek sources that spoke to the Agence France-Presse.

The exercise took place in Greek air space over the eastern Mediterranean between May 28 and June 12. Athens reportedly confirmed that Greek forces participated in the maneuvers.

An Israeli military official confirmed in a weekend interview with British media that the exercise was indeed meant to send a firm message to Iran. It was also designed to wake up the European Union, which continues to propose weak diplomatic efforts for dealing with Iran's nuclear program, even though such efforts have failed miserably over the past five years.

Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar responded as expected in a televised address on Iranian television, warning that Israel would suffer "devastating" retaliation if it tried to militarily halt his nation's nuclear program.
